We are looking for expressions of interest from anyone that would like to be part of such a group.
REMAP works through a nationwide network of dedicated volunteers formed into groups (we call Panels)
Unfortunately REMAP has had no presence in Nottinghamshire for the past 10 years or so.
What We Do
REMAP is a very special charity, REMAP’s unique pieces of equipment for the local disabled or struggling are tailor-made by volunteers & given free to the people who need them. Our appliances are made-to-measure specifically where 'off the shelf' solutions are not available for a client's unique problem.
Often we support NHS Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professional when they are really struggling to provide the exact piece of equipment their client need.
We can make the most mundane of things, like a better knob for a shower that an elderly client is struggling with, to aids allowing a disabled mother to bath her disabled child, or special equipment to get a wheelchair user to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro - the range is infinite.
Support in Nottinghamshire, being from the neighbouring panels of Leicestershire and Derbyshire, is very limited because of the distances involved for our volunteers.
With your support we need to find people to create a new Nottinghamshire REMAP presence.
We can also provide talks about REMAP illustrated with photos and videos of some of the interesting solutions we have provided over the years for very challenging cases.
There is no template on how this can be done !
Our thinking is that we first need to find local volunteer organisers not necessary engineers, as engineers are not always the best at the admin and publicity side of things.
Any new startup group would be well supported by us, with training, admin and financials and it may commence as an extension of one of our panels. These details are in front of us.
It is very fulfilling and enjoyable working in a group helping the most vulnerable in your local communities.
It can be technically challenging and require ingenuity from the engineers and the workload is what you want it to be. Some engineers take on one job a year others several a month, its as flexible as a volunteers time and enthusiasm.
Normally Panels meet monthly face to face and modern technology can allow for remote attendance over Zoom or Teams. The Officers required for an independent panel would be a Chair person, a Secretary and a Treasurer. Some Panels have more officers to break up the admin and publicity work if you get busy.
There could be 1 or 2 jobs per month up to 10-15 if your become a large active Panel.
Who are we looking for?
If you feel you or someone you know has the time and enthusiasm to help we want to hear from you.
Often our members are retired but that is certainly not a requirement. Retirees often have more time and can be experienced administrators, organisers, managers as well as a huge pool of talent for engineering and general practical expertise.
Our hands on people (engineers) are woodworkers, metal workers, machinists, general practical DIY'ers, some with experience in sewing, plastics and electronics. 3D printing is also becoming very useful for many of our solutions, and a single job can often be fulfilled by more than one panel engineer each contributing their area of expertise.
